Medical technicians (med-techs) have an important role in the medical profession. These healthcare professionals specialize in a particular field such as radiology, surgery, ultrasound, laboratory, dialysis, etc. Medical technician training made these people knowledgeable in performing diagnostic tests on various specimens (such as blood, sputum, urine, stool, peritoneal fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, pericardial fluid, synovial fluid, peritoneal fluid etc). Their medical technician training also honed their skill in handling emergency treatments, in using sophisticated medical equipments and performing routine laboratory procedures such as CAT (computed axial tomography) scan and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and prepared them foroperating room environments.
Given the importance and difficulty of the job, sufficient medical technician training is necessary. A basic medical course should be taken in college, and then further medical technician training – either through a short-term course or through an OJT.

Medical technician training required for those aiming to be cardiovascular med-techs would include how to perform echocardiograms (which are sonograms of the heart), vascular ultrasounds (to look for blood clots), and how to assist in cardiac catheterizations.
Lastly, medical technician training needed for those planning to be dialysis med-techs would include how to operate dialysis machinery (which is the removal of waste in the blood for patients with failing kidneys) and how to write reports after a dialysis session.
